Managing General Agency and insurance agency · Rome
SOTHIS operates on two tracks: it underwrites on behalf of appointing insurers under delegated authority, and distributes directly, as an agency, through a network of collaborators and accredited intermediaries.
Sothis rising above the horizon line.
The name
It's the Greek name for Sirius. For the Egyptians, its rising at dawn once a year meant the Nile would flood within days: the star appeared, and the water followed.
It wasn't an omen. It was a measurement, kept for three thousand years — the oldest predictive model on record, and the basis of the Egyptian calendar.
Underwriting is still this: recognising the sign that precedes the event, and saying, with a number, how much time is left.
How we work
As an MGA, SOTHIS receives from the appointing insurer the authority to accept risks within defined limits: it designs the product, assesses, issues, handles claims and reports back with data, reporting and audits. As an agency, it brings those same covers to market through its own network. The model in detail →

The underwriting scope opens up by order of expertise: bonds and sureties, motor and mobility, and traditional lines are already live; engineering, property, cat-nat and specialty lines are in development. See all areas →
