How we work

Delegated underwriter and agency. Two crafts, one structure.

As an MGA, SOTHIS receives from the appointing insurer the authority to accept risks within defined limits: it designs the product, assesses, issues, handles claims and reports back with data, reporting and audits. As an agency, it brings those same covers to market through its own network.

01

Delegated authority

Risk acceptance within the limits of the mandate, with binding authority defined by class, limit and risk type. Every decision is logged and reported back to the appointing insurer.

02

Full technical cycle

From product design and POG governance through to issuance, portfolio management and claims handling. A single point of contact for the whole chain.

03

Direct distribution

Alongside underwriting, agency activity: collaborators registered in Section E, accredited intermediaries, and peer-to-peer horizontal collaborations.

The name

Sothis is the star that announced the flood.

It's the Greek name for Sirius. For the Egyptians, its rising at dawn once a year meant the Nile would flood within days: the star appeared, and the water followed.

It wasn't an omen. It was a measurement, kept for three thousand years — the oldest predictive model on record, and the basis of the Egyptian calendar.

Underwriting is still this: recognising the sign that precedes the event, and saying, with a number, how much time is left.
